KILRUSH Gardaí are investigating the discovery of a body on the shore at Labasheeda this evening  (Tuesday).

The body was spotted shortly before 5pm by the Shannon Rescue Helicopter on the shore, close to the townland of Colmanstown. The helicopter had been on a training exercise.

Kilrush RNLI and the Kilkee Coastguard Unit were called to help with the recovery operation, while the helicopter returned from Shannon with two gardaí. The area where the body was located was only accessible from the air.

The body was removed from the scene and gardaí are checking their missing persons database in an effort to identify the person.
