A search was undertaken on a canal near the ESB power station at Ardnacrusha this evening (Tuesday) following the sighting of what was believed to be a body part in the water.

A motorist reported seeing “an arm” sticking out of the water, while passing over a bridge at around 4.30pm.

Three units of the Limerick City and County Fire Service responded, along with the Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter, and members of the Killaloe-based coastguard service and the Limerick Marine Rescue Service. The search continued until darkness.
