The Ombudsman for Children’s Office (OCO) has launched a new iPad app to raise awareness among children and young people about their rights.

More than 100 children and young people aged five to 18 took part in the OCO’s It’s Your Right project, which includes a website as well as the interactive iPad App.

Spokesperson, Nikki Gallagher, said, “The OCO has a responsibility to promote children’s rights among the public including with children directly. We also have a mandate to listen to children and young people, and to highlight issues that matter to them.

“It’s Your Right was a brilliant opportunity to combine all of these things. The children and the young people who took part in this project provide valuable insight into how children’s rights are part of their day to day lives.”

The OCO created Its Your Right to complement its human rights education programme, where schools visit the office to learn about children’s rights. The interactive application and itsyouright.ie feature extensive video, audio and photo elements, as well as a full list and information on the rights of the child.
